Safe Haven, 2024

“Safe Haven” is about documenting a small, safe place that does exist in the rural Southeast. In particular, this series of photographs was taken in Auburn, Alabama, at a small indie festival known as AubFest that is run by local college students. This music festival is an environment that allows the freedom of expression and openness to be yourself. It is a festival created so everyone can be themselves and feel safe doing so. As demonstrated by the calmness and openness of the rural landscape, contrasted by the liveliness of the young, rebellious spirit of AubFest. A little safe haven, simply located in rural Alabama. These documentary-style photographs were captured in Auburn, Alabama, using a Pentax K1000 on black and white film.
